Senior Electro-Optical Technician

Polaris Sensor Technologies is seeking an experienced Senior Electro-Optical Technician to join our cutting-edge R&D team. This position is ideal for a highly skilled technician with a strong background in micro motion mechanics, optical alignment, and high-energy laser systems. The ideal candidate will have 10+ years of hands-on experience supporting advanced imaging systems, fiber and focal plane array (FPA) integration, and precision optics in a cleanroom environment.

This position is full-time (40 hours per week) in Huntsville, Alabama. Salary is commensurate with applicant’s qualifications and experience. Polaris offers a competitive benefits package including health insurance and 401k.

Candidates must be U.S. citizens and must be able to obtain a security clearance upon demonstrated need.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and maintain micro motion mechanical assemblies for precise alignment of fibers, FPAs, and imaging systems
  • Align and integrate complex optical and lens systems, including high-energy laser components
  • Manage and maintain cleanroom environments and optics laboratories to ISO standards
  • Collaborate with engineers to prototype and test custom optical components
  • Utilize both traditional machining and additive manufacturing to fabricate precision mechanical parts
  • Support electrical integration and testing of optical assemblies
  • Develop and document optical alignment procedures, best practices, and lab protocols
  • Troubleshoot system-level integration issues across mechanical, optical, and electrical domains

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 10 years of experience in an optics lab or photonics engineering environment
  • Expertise in micro-positioning mechanics and alignment techniques
  • Strong experience with fiber optics, FPAs, lens systems, and high-energy lasers
  • Experience managing cleanroom and optical lab operations, including contamination control
  • Skilled in precision machining (CNC/manual) and additive manufacturing techniques
  • Comfortable with electronic integration, signal routing, and lab instrumentation
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a cross-functional engineering team
